Background of the implementation
Errors were occurring during store-specific sorting, which relies on lists.
Mistakes were occurring in list sorting due to numerous similar products, but now even beginners can handle the task by simply scanning the barcode and placing the item in the illuminated area.
The site relied solely on a small team of skilled, experienced workers. As a result, others could not step in to handle the tasks, and the work status was not being properly managed.
There was a risk of mistakes with many similar products, which required skilled workers for inspection work and took a lot of time. However, after introducing the wireless display unit, it became possible to eliminate the inspection work.
There was a tendency for the work to become person-dependent.
When sorting using lists, workers were conducting checks by cross-referencing with the slips.
The deciding factor for implementation
Work errors can be reduced, and work time can also be shortened.
Due to the nature of fishing gear as a product, the workload varied significantly depending on the season. Additionally, the large number of similar products placed a heavy burden on workers. However, it was determined that this challenge could be resolved, leading to the decision to implement the system.
Because it is a system with wireless light module that does not restrict sorting locations.
Currently, sorting work is being done on the 2nd floor, but if the equipment set on the cart is moved, sorting work can also be done on the 1st floor.
Impact after implementation
All operators became capable of sorting work with the same skill level.
There were many similar products, and there were many mistakes due to misidentification by beginners.
Improved operational efficiency.
With the increase in work efficiency, skilled workers are able to secure free time. As a result, they can use this free time to handle other tasks, leading to better multitasking capabilities.
Contributing to reducing overtime pay.
By introducing wireless light module, work time was reduced. As a result, efficiency improved, and tasks that previously took Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to complete can now be finished by Monday and Tuesday.
By reducing processes, we achieved operational efficiency.
Previously, after total picking was completed, we used to prepare simple boxes for sorting, complete the task, and then proceed with inspection and packaging. We couldn't move on to the next step until each individual process was completed. However, after the introduction of the system, we can now proceed with total picking while simultaneously advancing the assortment of small items, allowing for concurrent progress.
Improvement in internal awareness, increasing motivation for work improvement.
The introduction of light module demonstrated that implementing a system enables efficient work improvements. As a result, the company culture changed, and awareness of work improvement significantly increased.
